Our story

Grit is a woman owned and operated start up with big dreams of offering Atlanta new opportunities to engage with the ceramic process. Meg Longo and Alana Morrison are local ceramicists who have felt the need for more ceramic space first hand. We have worked on porches and in sheds with a fraction of the resources that are required to make consistent work.

Grits mission is to create a friendly, community focused space that beginners and experienced artists alike can enjoy. We will provide access to clay at multiple levels such as one off classes, long form workshops, and paint your own pottery experiences.

Opening a brick and mortar store is a monumentally expensive feat. With our Kickstarter funded and or events popping off we are closer than ever to reaching our funding goal, but we’re not there yet!

Future offerings

Long Form Workshop

Classes will meet for 2- 4 hours of instruction each week and an instructor will walk students through a portion of the ceramic process. Students may also have access to open studio time during the week to come in and week on their projects. Courses will last for four-six weeks and provide a more extensive ceramic education.

Mini classes

One off mini classes are a great way to dip your toe into ceramics. They will be offered on a wide range of topics and be tied to a specific project (like a bowl and plate snack set) or be more open ended and allow you to experiment with clay. Hand building and throwing classes will be made available once Grit opens!

Paint your own pottery

This offering is currently available as a pop up (check out our event page), but we will expand once we open to provide private event service and public workshops. We bring the paint, pieces, brushes, bowls, and even craft paper to keep tables clean. Guests pick out which ceramic piece they would like to paint during the course of the event and get to work. After the event we will take the pieces, fire them, and return them to the customers. Pieces will be food, dishwasher, and microwave safe upon completion unless otherwise stated.
